Who owns the web address of the city?

The task

We often hear the question: Who owns the web address of the city? Behind the question there is another problem in fact - what should be presented / what shouldn't be presented on the portal of a settlement.
In the case of Hajdúszoboszló it was evident that the city would like to provide an opportunity for all her citizens and organisations to appear under the web address www.hajduszoboszlo.hu, the only question that remained was - how? We managed to find a flexible and visitor-friendly solution to this problem.

The objective

It was a shared goal, therefore, to make it possible for all the entities of the settlement, that wish to turn the city web address to their advantage, to appear on the portal of the city. At the same time, a city portal must represent the city itself as an administrative unit in a high-standard manner as well, including communicating results, news, public notices, and announcements.

The solution

The portal building technology of our company makes it possible to connect several different portals to a single web address, that is, to a single domain, while a portal can be accessed under several web addresses. We used this feature of our solution when creating the Internet site of the city of Hajdúszoboszló, thus now there are 6 different portals in four different languages connected to the address www.hajduszoboszlo.hu.

We have created separate portals for different types of contents. An independent portal was created for administrative contents under the name Administration of Hajdúszoboszló that provides up-to-date information to the citizens of the city about news, public notices, opportunities concerning them.

Therapeutical tourism is of primary importance in the life of the city and a great number of guests arrive from foreign countries. For this reason we created a tourism portal as well, under the name Welcome to Hajdúszoboszló the portal offers a lot of useful information about the history and sights, as well as places of accommodation, and restaurants in the city. Beside Hungarian the portal is also available in English, German, and Polish.

Finally, there is a portal containing a list of accommodation and catering establishments a unique feature of the portal is that it is possible to search among the places of accommodation according to services (for example, guarded parking lot). Therefore, business establishments in the tourist trade are given an opportunity to advertise their services without limitations on the portal of the city, a very well-attended website. It is achieved through the so-called Web-spaces - advertisers are given a Web-space within the appropriate portals, and they upload their pieces of information to their Web-space - for example their presentation, offers, and services, like Internet booking. The contents of the Web-spaces are edited and updated by their owners themselves, through the Internet, with the help of a simple programme.
